I am going fall to my knees, raise my beanied head to the heavens, and cry, rage, scream and wail, "Noooooo!!!" until I burst a blood vessel. Then I will return home to my mother's basement and finish off a packet of doritos I'd had half of for breakfast.

I'm lactose intolerant so I can't eat Doritos. @OP
The progressive nonprofit I work for would get so many ragedonations it would actually be financially better for me if Trump won. So I'd respond to a Trump presidency by raising my 403b contribution % and maxing out my Roth IRA.
Unfortunately the Orange Man is bad so the country as a whole would be worse off, but I'd be fine.

Nonprofits do not pay exceptionally well. If I were really greedy I'd be doing my current boring job at some defense contractor that sells child-sized landmines to warlords and make double.

No it's lower, especially if there's a lot of income inequality like in USAmerica.
Let's say there's 3 people, one earns $1,000,000/year, one earns $1/year and one earns $2/year. The average (mean) income would be $1,000,003/3 or around $333,333/year. The median income would be $2/year.
The median is the amount exactly on the middle. 😐 The same number of people make less than the median and make more than the median. That's just definitionally what it is.

Oh yes, i misspoke. you make more than 50% of people in your area. i don't think that could be described as average or typical

You are going to turn me into an alcoholic. Half the population makes less than me. Half the population makes more than me. By definition I literally earn the average, typical amount for.my area.

To put concrete numbers on it, I earn $57,000 per year. Double that is $114,000 per year. Looking at your chart, 10.3% earn more than $200k, so they earn more than double what I do. 8% earn $150k-$200k. So out of the top 50%, 18.3% earn for sure double what I do. 15.3% earn $100-$150k. To make things easy, let's assume that's evenly spread out. That means half of that 15.3% (so ~7.7%) earns $125-$150k, which is more than double what I earn.
Adding it up, 18.3%+7.7% = 26% of the top 50% earns double what I do. Aka the typical person earning more than me earns double what I do.

Yes I work at a nonprofit so I have better hours and benefits but lower pay. If I decide I want more money I'll hop to the private sector. Also didn't you criticize me yesterday for being greedy or something?

This is like saying:
The average number of fingers per person in the world is just under 10. So the number of people who have less than 9.99 fingers is the same as the number of people who have more than 9.99 fingers.

Mean vs. Median. The median number of fingers per hand is 10, the mean is 9.99999 or whatever. Though point taken, for data sets where 99.999% of all values are the same number what i said about median is not true.
