I was looking at a catalog of films they have produced and a lot of them seems like mindless driven. The first Despicable Me was alright, but why is there such a big obsession with the Minions that it warranted several spin-off films and sequels? Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was cute, but ultimately felt like it was made strictly for children and not broader audiences.
Compared to say Dreamworks or even Disney. Illumination seems like it caters to the lowest common denominator of society. Unless it's parents bringing their kids to see the film. I cannot see why adults find this studio appealing.

Uhh, no they are not. Minions tend to be one dimensional. Nothing wrong with that though since there are a lot of one dimensional people in the world.

But the Minions are surrounded by a cast of varied characters and the Minions can be seen as one character as they typically work as a group
Most Disney princesses only differ in ethnicity and setting and have very similar motivations
