Rapunzel was locked away from the world and literally gaslighted.
Elsa was similar.
Anna had to live without her best friend and sister.
Cinderella had abusive relatives.
Mulan had to witness her ill father be drafted and elected to subject herself to the horrors of military life to protect him.
Tiana was never heard, taken seriously, all due to being black and the racial prejudice that still exists today.
Snow White was literally feed a poison apple for just existing.
Disney Princess Syndrome implies they’re spoiled. They weren’t spoiled in the slightest. If anything, they had to have happy endings or else it’ll be depressing.

What were the original tales? Because the Brothers Grimm also lightened up some of their publishing so I guess whenever the stories first came out had it the worst. But I do have a book of Grimm fairytales.

Rapunzel for instance, had never net a man. And so didn't know what sex or pregnancy was, and was sent to live in isolation when she asked her mother why her stomach was growing
Also, her suitor was purposefully blinded by the mother and wandered alone until he happened upon Rapunzel and his children

The stories don't have an original date of publication, they're folk tales. They didn't "come out" like one of your stars wars

The original 18th C. French tale of Beauty and the Beast was targeted at young women who were about to enter into arranged marriages.
It was meant to convince them that no matter how much of a beast their new husband appeared to be, if they loved and obeyed them, things would work out for the best.

I thought the Prince in that story fell from the tower and the thick bushes pierced his eyes? Also, he does miraculously regain his sight according to Brothers Grimm.
