How do I help myself?

What kind of pain? Did you pull something? Back pain is one of the worst health issues. Its hard to get relief because pain pills are so awesome.

I am not sure if I pulled something or not. This has been an issue for me for over 7 years now.

Stretch more and spend less time sitting down?

I can't sleep due to the pain.
Try heat, or ICY-HOT.

Lower right, in the muscle above my pelvis, on the right below the start of my pelvis and the upper right part of my right leg.

It sounds like you have a pinched nerve. Do you stretch?

Rarely. What kind of stretches should I do, and how long do these kinds of things usually affect you?

Maybe forever if you don't see a specialist. This is how I stretch. Find a bed that's a few feet off the floor. Lay down on your back and slowly ease your neck off. Do this for each small section of your back, holding onto the bed and let your weight hang down with your head.

What kind of doctor specializes in this kind of pain? I have seen spine doctors and had an MRI but they haven't found anything wrong.

I would check out a chiropractor (research them first) or a massage therapist. Also, look up back stretching and strengthening exercises online. Do you sleep in weird positions?

It also helped when I got better shoes. Going barefoot or wearing something with no arch support might be making it worse.

What do you do with your arms? Especially the arm on your bad side.

You might have to try putting the bad arm at your side.

I get a similar pain, OP. Bad enough sometimes laying down hurts too much to sleep. If you stand a lot it'll help (for me it does) but you might follow the shoe advice first, helps a lot. If i sit for more than a couple of hours (driving cross state for example) then I have to stop and walk around. If you sit at a desk all day get up a lot and walk for a bit. Helps a lot after awhile.

Lower back pain is the worst back pain imo. Oh, and make sure when you do sit you sit properly: feet flat on the floor, don't recline, and maintain posture, don't slouch. Sitting "comfy" feels good till it hurts like fucking hell.

After about 10 minutes of sitting I'm good to walk at a near-normal speed, though with a heavy limp. Sleeping feels good, but getting up is probably the worst part of my day. I will follow your advice on sitting, and maybe get some insoles.

Very recently I injured my back and now cannot sit for very long. The only thing that makes it feel better is standing, walking, or running. Running works the best and after I run it feels really good for a while. Another trick I have taken to doing recently is to take two or three muscle relaxers and drink until it doesn't hurt. That's probably not the safest way but it is the most fun.

iaa. Excercise is the best way to fix your body. But yes, drugs and alcohol help fix the mind.

If I don't get completely fucked up on the pills and alcohol I cannot sleep for more than an hour or two in my bed. I have to wake up and go sleep in a chair. Does this happen to you with your pain?

I usually do cardio for no less than 30 minutes a day. I was concerned too after I hurt my back. I waited for a couple of days and then went back to the gym. I still had a lot of pain but as soon as I started running it didn't hurt at all. I didn't even ease into it by running at a particularly slow pace. I did keep it at a constant 10 minute mile pace though. Usually I start out at that and jack up the speed for five minute intervals. I ran today and did the interval thing and there was no pain during the run or for about an hour after.

Yeah, lol. Sure does. Bout the only thing I can do when that happens is take a hot shower and sleep on the floor after it stops spasming. I need a new matress probably.

Lol the hot showers! Yes. I get the water scalding hot and it helps. Last night I took a nap curled up on the floor and slept rather well.

Have you tried swimming or using a whirlpool?

Anonymous C replied with this 15 years ago, 15 minutes later, 10 hours after the original post[^] [v] #205,941

Start slow. You don't need to do an hour long yoga routine and then run a marathon or anything. Just find a spare few minutes while you're bored or waiting for something, sit down on the floor, and stretch a bit. Find some positions that feel like stretches and hold them for a while. (There are lots of sites and YouTube videos about lower back stretches if you are short of ideas.) Try to get a good walk in every few days. It doesn't need to be strenuous.

When you are sitting in a chair, the back support is taking care of a lot of the work that your lower back muscles are supposed to be doing in supporting your body. Spending a lot of time sitting can leave them weak.

Oooohhh... fond memories of methocarbamol, a cold gin and tonic, and nothing else to do.

I've heard it can matter for some people over time. It may not be a huge factor for you. I only mention it as something to be mindful of.
