31 years, 2.5 million miles, been to every state(except Alaska and Hawaii), been to Canada 4 times, and one crash(I was not at fault), it's time to hang up the truck keys. November 10th will be the final day of my trucking career.

It's starting to catch up with me. The long hours, away from home, and I think I've done more than I ever imagined with driving.
Probably the most memorable story I have was the crash I was in back in 2015. I think I posted it here not long after it happened.

I did pick up a couple hitchers in the 90s, but as the 2000s rolled around, I quit doing it when a few of them seemed like real weirdos.

I have to be an owner operator to be considered a real trucker? Damn, I been doing it wrong this whole time.
The ones we considered wannabes are the ones who drive pickup trucks pulling trailers, and hauling loads for different companies.
It's a whole different ballgame being on owner/op. Insurance, truck payment, repair bills, price of fuel, finding loads, and it goes on. In the long run for me, being an owner/op wasn't worth it. After paying for fuel all week, you're lucky if you get a paycheck.

Are there any unwritten rules of the road when picking up hitchhikers? Like they have to walk you off while driving?
