Mine might be able to. I've only tried 1080p though. YouTube's 480p is doable, but it takes ages to load. It'll play a couple seconds, then it has to load for another few minutes. Continues to do that loop the whole video. Not worth it.

Well if it can handle 1080p it can handle 720p and videos loading slowly is because of your network

Well, 1080p for me made everything slow motion. So I was thinking 720p might work. I thought it was because my network, but it works fine on my desktop. Maybe it's just because WiFi.

VLC for iOS (search for it in Installous) does a nice job.
