If that was caused by religion why were the Ancient Romans, and the later Byzantine empire, seemingly unaffected? They were both pretty devout states.

In my slightly informed opinion, religious issues were largely irrelevant to why the Roman Empire, and the later Eastern Roman Empire, fell. Yes, the Romans had trouble with Christian persecutions (and later Christians persecuting pagans and rival sects), and the Eastern Romans went on to have at least one massive schism over religion. But these were never killing blows, and they kept a strong intellectual tradition. I would agree with you that their examples disprove the idea that Christianity always causes dark ages where everyone becomes retarded.

I think that idea of a Christian dark age is probably a massive oversimplification tbh. There was a regression after Rome fell in Western Europe, but I think that can largely be put down to the collapse of the Roman government, and the fact that the barbarian Kings that replaced the Roman administrators just didn't have the same experience or mindset in governing and administration. At least not at first.

The idea of the Dark Ages was invented by Italian Renaissance men to make themselves seem new and better. The fact is that great feats were accomplished in the supposed Dark Ages. Think of the amazing cathedrals that were built, for example, that required advanced knowledge of math, physics, architecture, art, etc.

It's not entirely fictional. Like, here in Britain, there really was a dark age. Parts of the country abandoned currency for a while, and went back to bartering.
But yes, medieval engineering could be good! I once heard one historian describe it as their focus simply switching from thing like forums and statues to things like churches.

Wrong. Wrong.

You thought wrong.

I’m actually not in a slightest. If I had to live life as a disgusting pig lesbian I would probably go ahead and off myself.

Mark 11:24 says “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”
And I will be praying for improvement in your mental health.

Yeah that's what I mean. I don't think either Christianity or Paganism were responsible for the Empire's glory and/or downfall.
Basically I think "Christianity caused the Dark Ages" is wrong, given the prosperity and achievements of majority Christian countries before and after the Dark Ages.
