My former boss and I have a great bond. She is an old lesbian woman and she was the general manager at a corporate gas station I worked at for 5 years as her head cashier and then assistant manager.
I had gotten my then-girlfriend on for work at a different store in the company, and then a little while later my boss retired, so I quit shortly after that and we soft broke up, then hard broke a couple years ago.
My ex, however, made a career out of it and became a general manager at another store. She was never as close to my former boss, but they still maintained a friendship.
I recently noticed that my ex’s Facebook page was updated to show that she works at a completely different company in a different industry now. I’m incredibly curious, but I’m not on speaking terms with my ex or anyone in her life.
Even though I don’t speak to my former boss as much, she still refers to me as her son and she stays in loop dealing with company happenings.
Would it be weird to ask her what happened with my ex?

I mean, "yes", but I've been guilty of similar. If you have a close relationship with your old boss, who cares? Just ask lol.

i mean it's not that crazy to leave a job and it's not that crazy to ask why someone left a job there really isn't anything to be overly sensitive about here just ask if you're curious
@OP
If you didn't have a good enough relationship with your boss, it'd be weird, but you do so it isn't.
What'd be weird is if you found a complete stranger and paid them to get a job at her new company to steadily gather information on her over the course of several years. Or if you paid off local delivery drivers and service workers to scope out her current living conditions and take stealth photos.
