Christianity has been drifting away from the teachings of Christ and even invalidating them. Islam suffers from the same problem. Travelling the route of religion only leads to a godless place where even the most harden athiest is the closet you'd get to God.

To what extent do you think Islam suffers from this? I don't think Islam experiences anything to the same degree or of the same kind. Islam is a lot more resistant to modernisation ("innovation" - bid'ah) than Christianity for various reasons. Not that liberal Muslims and "reformers" don't exist but they're largely sidelined and ignored.

There's reason to believe what we now know as Islam is part of a reactionary movement that started with colonialism. You see, before colonialism even things like homosexuality were largely tolerated. But, likely, as a means to consciously or unconsciously distance themselves from their colonizers, these regions rebelled against what they saw as Western decadence. They then, as some say, retreated in to the world of conservativism. Although I wouldn't say "retreated" is the correct word as, as far as I'm aware, the level of conservatism seen in the Arab world is nothing but a modern invention.

It's just people pretending to be good when really they're fake like Christians. There are Muslims who use their charitable requirements to save face when they are just shit heads. It's not any more or less resistant than Christianity, it's the same. That's why I critique them equally.
