My Victorinox Swiss Army Midnite Minichamp Pocket Knife Red 58 mm is arriving Saturday. I don't know how I lived my whole life without it. It's from Switzerland and the official knife of the Swiss Army.

Nice. What's it called? How long is the blade?
How do you open bottles, file your nails, take measurements, unscrew Phillips and flathead screws, pick your teeth, or manipulate small scale objects when you're out and about? Because I'm soon going to be able to do all that with my Victorinox Swiss Army Midnite Minichamp -- all with a tool the same size as a tube of chapstick.

How do you carry these? They seem a bit bulky to fit in your pocket. Do you attach it to your belt? Strapped to your ankle? I feel like strapped to your ankle would be best for these, but I've never carried a knife like that, so don't know if it's actually convenient as it appears.

No one thought that you did, but thanks for sharing. Attitudes like these are probably why your country was so effortlessly steamrolled in WWII, while the Swiss, with their knives and their guns maintained neutrality from day zero to the end.
Just going to be honest with you for a second: You sound like the type of guy who'd get nervous around a butter knife; the type of guy who manages to cut himself with a pair of safety scissors. I doubt you own anything sharper than a dull crayon. Why would you?

The Victorinox Swiss Army Midnite Minichamp Pocket Knife is not, in itself, designed for wilderness survival. It is designed to be used in a rudimentary urban environment, such as a small village in the Swiss Alps with a semi-functioning but not entirely reliable infrastructure. So this knife is suitable for virtually anything and anywhere you could ever find yourself in Dutch land.
For straight up wilderness survival, the Victorinox Swiss Army Midnite Minichamp Pocket Knife is also not a bad choice, given its versatility and compact size. But you may also consider carrying some heavier guns, so to speak, like the switch blades posted above.

I think it's the Minichamp™! I'm not 100% though; it was a gift a few years back. It's grate and it's legal to carry under our cucked knife laws.

It arrived. Best purchase of my life!
I thought there'd be a toothpick in the second pull out slot in addition to the tweezers, but instead of a toothpick there's some type of poker thing that doesn't come fully out of the knife. Not sure what I'll use it for, and I kind of wanted a toothpick, but then again I don't really use toothpicks either so this is fine too.
The knife and scissors are probably going to be the main things I use this for.

From how my MiniChamp looks, I think you don't have one. The tweezers slot is located on the opposite end of where the key ring is on mine. And the form factor of yours is a little more elongated.
Biggest question now: should I put it on my key chain or leave it free-standing? On the one hand, if I keep it free-standing, I may use it more since I'll keep it on the table beside me where I normally sit at home. But on the other, it means I'll have to remember to get it and take it with me each time I leave the house. I'm leaning towards leaving it free-standing. I think it'll make it easier to use too if it's not attached to my bulky key ring.

Do you literally carry these around in your pocket?
> i don't know why anybody would get a Swiss army knife in the year of our Lord 2023 just get a Leatherman or something
Because the MiniChamp is very small and I can carry it in my pocket pretty much everywhere without a second thought. All the leathermans I saw seem larger. Also, are they the official knives of the Swiss Army? Didn't think so.
And anyway, I don't really do camping or survivalist shit, so my use case is urban to semi-rural environments. I don't need to pull out a huge ass buck knife to open a package.

Nice. I think I looked at that one, but opted for the MiniChamp due to its size. I did want the saw tool though. Sadly, the MiniChamp doesn't have one.

yeah these are all like 3-4 inch knives not exactly "huge" but ok. yes I carry them in my pocket because they are small. Leatherman makes tons of products, some very small

I only wear cotton pants, not blue jeans. So I hate the feeling of having anything in my pockets, even a wallet. No way I'm carrying a 3-4 inch knife.
Also, I've yet to meet a package that requires a 4 inch knife.

I'd say keep it off the keys. Having it on your keys does avoid the hassle of remembering it, but eventually that becomes second nature anyway and it's just more convenient unburdened IMO.

I feel the same way. Hunting and fishing sound quite boring. But, then again, I also feel the same about camping. They seem like one in the same activity to me, so I don't know why anyone would like one but not the other.

Important update: I discovered that the poker thing that comes partially out near where I thought they'd place a toothpick is actually a pen. Pretty neat.

Update: opened several packages, used my knife's ruler to make some measurements, and cut apart some LED strip lights for a project I'm working on. Incredibly sharp and effective blades.
It's super convenient having a ruler on hand at all times now. I can't estimate distances to save my life, so being able to get a quick measurement is great. Reminds me of how when I got a wristwatch that shows the date and day of the week, I've never been able to go back to any watch without those functions.

Urgent: I noticed minor scratches on the red plastic handle of my knife after my first day of use. Should I see these as well-earned battle scars or intolerable blemishes that I should seek to buff out immediately? If the latter, does anyone have recommendations or experiences using plastic screen protectors to prevent this from happening again?

They are, quite simply, the finest, most rugged multitools (pronounced as one word) available. Also, your Swiss toy is made of cheap plastic. Thanks.

I misspoke. The red case isn't steel; it's pure diamond. My knife got scratched when I put it in my pocket because I forgot that I had a handful of uncut diamond gemstones in my pocket. I recently withdrew them from my safety deposit box in my Swiss bank account. Thanks.
