I've used those Facebook email lists and that's all well and good but most of those people are in different countries and it's just retarded. I don't usually send friend requests at all for fear of rejection (feels bad when people you thought liked you or old school friends ignore your request). What is the best way to get a bunch of people you know of or have been acquaintances to add you as a friend? Should I just stop being a pussy and send out fucktons of friend requests? Is there something I'm missing?

College, work, and social functions are a quick path to a few hundred friends.
It's not like a friend request is really a big deal. Just find people you know, friend them, and move from there. You don't really need to say much, as a Facebook friendship is low on meaning and everybody already knows this.
As your network grows, the "people you may know" feature becomes very useful.

Just add everyone you know. Being "Facebook friends" with someone is no big deal, just add everyone you have a lot of mutual friends with, and add people when you meet them (eg through other friends or at a party). I have between 650 and 700 friends, and all mine are from raves/parties and school.
It's really not that big of a deal though. Once you have around 400 friends you basically get all the benefits from having a good amount of facebook friends (knowing about parties, having an easy way to casually talk to people). Who actually cares otherwise?

What I do with my biking friends is very similar to your raving culture. We have lots of fun with lots of people, but we do it fairly safely and reasonably and actually work with the city and county agencies. By centering our social events around biking, cleaning up after ourselves, and participating in charity, we effectively get carte blanche to drink and do drugs in the street while playing loud music and dancing… so long as we are respectful about it.
We always promote the meetup spots and times, set a departure time for a "secret spot," and make expectations clear—what's needed, when photography is unacceptable, and how to stay safe. That's the difference.

They're illegal raves buddy. No-one has the land or money to make them legitimate events, so it's easier (and more fun) to just borrow someones field or barn for the weekend.

Yes, and the last rave I was at was on a State right-of-way where I-5 and I-84 intersect. We had to ride down private rail tracks and past the warehouses of Tazo Tea (owned by Starbucks) and a local ambulance company. There was a tiki bar, a punk band with full setup, and six soundsystem bikes all hooked up to the same electro-trance source. There was also flaming jousting on tallbikes.
(A state right-of-way is public land that you're only allowed passage on and you're trespassing if you do anything else.)
Our gatherings are also entirely illegal and unsanctioned, and non-aggressively fuck with the man. What's your next excuse? I make tons of great friends at these events.
