Remember Americans: shooting at it will not help.

What do you recommend? We’ve never had one before. I’m right in the path. I have bottled water and a car jumper that has an outlet. Gonna buy some more bottled water and maybe sandbags for the front door.

Maybe some electric lanterns that you pre charge

Those cellphone batteries charged

Flashlights and batteries

Food that keeps without refrigeration

Battery powered radio may be a good idea

And charge everything you have that needs to be charged

Even old cell phones and laptops

Also get candles and food.

Yes I said food that doesn't require refrigation

I almost feel like candles are over rated but are still a good idea. I prefer good flashlights with many batteries and electric lanterns that you keep charged for emergencies

I grew up in a hurricane area. Candles can be useful if the power is out for days or longer. Batteries will eventually wear out.

Candles can burn down as well and don't cast near as much light generally

True, but they are good backups that do not require electricity or battery. Just saying. People here stock them.

I agree. But I grew up in Florida and most people stock disaster supplies all year round. And flashlights and batteries are considered to be necessary

Get a can of Cristo lard, cut a long candle the length of the can, and jam it down the center of it.

It will burn for days, and the oil will not catch on fire or cause a fire hazard(assuming you keep it away from flammable items).
