Topic: Sleepaway Camp is a terrible movie

Anonymous A started this discussion 2 years ago #112,137

Forgive me if this topic has been made before, but something reminded me...

I love 1980's slashers, don't get me wrong. But these kills are so boring, the acting is dull, and the story is lifeless.

Unironically a transgender child's penis is what caused this film to become a cult classic. It wasn't the writing, it wasn't the special effects, it wasn't the brilliant acting; it was a penis.

Enlighten me on this please.

It was not the penis (the penis actor was 18+, by the way). What made it a classic was that weird, unsettling, uncanny-valley look that Angela gives in the last scene, and that weird demonic roaring.

Is it worth it to sit through 83 minutes of straight boredom for that one shot?

Not for people who are not horror aficionados, no, and I understand that. We horror aficionados consider it worth it, though.

The Slumber Party Massacre was objectively a better film.

I agree.

Critics don't though, for whatever reason. Sleepaway Camp has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 81%, while The Slumber Party Massacre only has a score of 45%. What could be the reason for this?

Good question, honestly. I don't know.

Its a fun movie. The aunt is the beat character and her odd manner of delivering lines is hilarious

I also think the heavy gay subrext is comical and I like the costumes
