I can't help but think there's a bit of racism behind anyone who singles out black people for ridicule over stupid names. There's nothing inherently dumber about naming a girl LaToya vs. Madison or Blair or any of the other made-up androgynous shit white people name their daughters. Both give you a pretty good idea of the kid's race, and neither of them is traditional. What makes LaToya so much worse - except for the fact that it tells you the person is probably black? Think about it like this. I have a black friend named Teresa. How do you think she would feel if someone came up to her and asked "Why don't you have a black name?" Or what if a white person had a name like "Dashawnn" and someone asked them, "Why do you have a black name?" I can understand Germans having German names or Muslims having Muslim names, but there's no real heritage to the shit that some of these people make up. Like Ninjj said here @202,263, (Ninjj) misspelling a name to make it "more black" is retarded, not because it makes it black, but because it's retarded to intentionally misspell your child's name. So asking to make hurricane names "more black" is like saying "we should start misspelling Hurricane names on purpose to give recognition to the black community."
As I said in my first post, why doesn't the black community stop making up names just for the sake of dividing themselves from the rest of the community? Instead we have to start naming things after everything someone can come up with to keep it fair? If you want your child to have a recognizable name, then give them a recognizable name. If you don't give them a recognizable name, then don't be surprised if his/her name is not to be found anywhere. If I gave my son a name like Diondre for the sake of his name being unique, I'd be pissed if I found out a hurricane was named after him. It defeats the point of having a unique name.
