I once had a resident who was so depressed that she become nearly catatonic, and had been diagnosed as being failure to thrive. She actually received Electroconvulsive (Electroshock) therapy and started talking and eating and walking again. Anyway, the reason that she had been so depressed was that her daughter and granddaughter had both committed suicide. Turns out that her son in law had been molesting his daughter for years. Evidently, the little girl had tried telling her mother multiple times,only to be ignored or ridiculed. Finally when the girl was in her late teens, some bit of evidence smacked the mother in the face and she finally believed her daughter. The pair then entered into a suicide pat and killed themselves.

Okay, I do not agree with this on a statistical level. It's similar to someone seeing a woman with a guy who treats her like crap and thinking that women only want guys who abuse them. However, I can think of three scientific-wild-ass-guess reasons a given woman might be attracted to a pedophile specifically:
1. Unobtainable. Everyone wants what they have trouble getting. If you find a guy who seems content without a woman in his life, some might think he has a nice single life and does not "need" sex.
2. He seems to get along with children.
3. Pedophiles, from what I've read, are also disproportionately psychopaths. With that comes a "superficial glibness or charm."
That's the best I can give from what I've read and seen, mostly the New York Times, a few psychology books, and documentaries.

Want to know something worse? Her husband stayed with her and took care of her during the whole thing. He would come and spend at least six hours a day with her at the rehab center and always helped with her care. He started getting occasional dizzy spells but tests revealed nothing so they were ignored. The wife (the former catatonic elderly woman) started to slowly walk again and made an almost complete recovery. Well the husband fainted one day and was then after diagnosed with brain cancer. He died quickly after that.
