I never understood why Brits travel this way. Go to some exotic locale then spend every day and night in the Western pub with other Westerners. Why even travel?
Nah, I'm kidding. I've visited a lot of local places and sights. Yesterday we went to the Santa Maria La Menor cathedral, the oldest in the Americas.
I've been to the Zona Colonial and Santo Domingo Este and the poorer parts around Alma Rosa.
Funnily, there's a place called Food Truck Lovers (I'm serious) in Alma Rosa that was highly recommended by literally every "local" we spoke to (in broken Spanish).

It's only one stop amongst hundreds, but it's just fun finding familiar places abroad. I obviously won't really hang around pubs and eat KFC (much (probably)).

It's fun. It's irreverent. Especially with McDonald's™ I like seeing how the menu options and experience differ. It's also a reliable place to get decent WiFi and cheap but predictable food in a country where the Internet is spotty and hygiene ...isn't always fantastic.
As a one-off I think there's nothing wrong with it. I'm here for a month so there's plenty of time.
