The test is deliberately worded to work around problems such as that. All the questions in the test question solely opinion. The five questions that can be relevant to homosexuality: > Sex outside marriage is usually immoral. > A same sex couple in a stable, loving relationship, should not be excluded from the possibility of child adoption. > Pornography, depicting consenting adults, should be legal for the adult population. > What goes on in a private bedroom between consenting adults is no business of the state. > No one can feel naturally homosexual.

Only these three are political questions.

These are not political questions. As such they do not belong on a test of one's political opinions.

The latter two are used to infer the respondent's social views, generally, and then given extra weight if the response indicates a strong opinion, which infers how likely the respondent is to accept state intervention in private social affairs.

I believe no one can feel naturally homosexual, but I can respect those who feel differently and that does not make homosexuality a bad thing. Same sex couples should be able to adopt children, though the social implications should be considered and the social background of the child. Pornography between consensual adults is a strong yes. What goes on in one's private home is a strong yes. Sex outside of marriage is a strong yes.

It actually gives no common ground and certainly does not allow one to discuss the subtleties of one's beliefs. It asks a series of non political questions and assigns you a position on a misleading grid.
A thread asking people opinions on 5 random issues would be far more helpful in discussing subtleties etc.

@previous (Homestar !RUNNERV7vk) > Do you think parent's should be allowed to?
Not... really. There is definitely a threshold between "light physical correction" and "child abuse." It probably needs to be determined on a case-by-case basis.
> Can you explain?
The question states "no savage... peoples," specifically. There is a point where that's true (American, British and Japanese culture are all markedly different from each other, but are equally civilized), but there's definitely a point where it isn't. The example that hits my mind first and hardest is FGM in some cultures; I am aware that the practitioners feel as if there is a legitimate need to do so, but... there isn't. It's born purely of ignorance and, in my opinion, a "savage" civilization. I wouldn't choose terminology quite that harsh myself, but it does fit the question.
> Do you think artistic people are more important than practical ones?
No, but the inverse isn't true, either.
> But some people are born into pretty shitty circumstances, right?
Yes, of course. I didn't interpret "luck" in that question to be referring to circumstances such as that. I was thinking of the more arbitrary/random definitions of "luck."

> If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations. Strongly agree
Non-political question. Implicit in the question is the idea that government confiscation of property from individuals helps humanity, despite it obviously hurting humanity by the exact same amount - more when you factor in loss of rights and liberty, destruction of free market etc.
> No one chooses his or her country of birth, so it's foolish to be proud of it. Agree
Poorly worded question. It is foolish to be proud of a country only because you were born there, but there are other reasons to be proud of a country.
> Military action that defies international law is sometimes justified. Strongly disagree
I don't know that I'd strongly disagree. It would justifiable to rebel against corrupt or evil international organizations.

What do you mean by class? What do you mean by nationality?
> Controlling inflation is more important than controlling unemployment. Agree
It annoys me to no end when people think that it is the role of government to find people jobs!
> Because corporations cannot be trusted to voluntarily protect the environment, they require regulation. Strongly agree
Surely you recognize that 'voluntarily protecting the environment' and 'regulation' is a false dichotomy?
> "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need" is a fundamentally good idea. Agree
It is a fundamentally good idea. Authorizing the state to take and give is not, though, yet that is implicit in the question.
> It's a sad reflection on our society that something as basic as drinking water is now a bottled, branded consumer product. Disagree
Not a political question.
> Land shouldn't be a commodity to be bought and sold. Disagree
Have you read much about Georgism? It seems pretty interesting.
> It is regrettable that many personal fortunes are made by people who simply manipulate money and contribute nothing to their society. Agree
Implying that their financial services contribute nothing to society (not true)
> Protectionism is sometimes necessary in trade. Agree
Please justify this with examples!
> The only social responsibility of a company should be to deliver a profit to its shareholders. Strongly disagree
Not a political question. I believe people should act morally, but do not believe that state should force them to do so.
> Those with the ability to pay should have the right to higher standards of medical care. Strongly disagree
How can you possibly justify this? Tall poppy syndrome?
> Governments should penalise businesses that mislead the public. Strongly agree
The question seems to imply more than just lawsuits by consumers. It seems to imply a department of bureaucrats and regulation and inspectors &c.
> A genuine free market requires restrictions on the ability of predator multinationals to create monopolies. Strongly agree
This is immediately a stupid statement. "Free market" means free from regulation. To rephrase the question: "A market genuinely free from regulation requires regulation on the ability..."
> The freer the market, the freer the people. Strongly agree

Simply because I literally cannot think of a single way a completely equal society could function. I can't interpret it as questioning your views on anything other than anarchy. Should the police not have the ability to command others? Should congress (or your governmental equivalent) not have the ability to make laws for others to obey? You might think I'm taking this question in an overly-grandiose fashion, but it specifically mentions "civilized society." Society in general. This isn't targeting small local organizations.

Fair enough. I found the "always" part of the statement to be disturbing (as if a strict hierarchy was necessary everywhere) and couldn't bring myself to agree with it. A lot of the items could have been more clearly phrased. It was often hard to know whether they wanted you to judge whether a statement was generally true or always true.

Well, politics is 90% interpretation. Interpretation of the Constitution, interpretation of freedom... your response showed your mindset towards the attitude of the question, which is probably more accurate a means of measurement than you'd think.

Mostly, it's just knee-jerk skepticism that makes me cautious of statements using words like all, always, every, etc.

I'm yet another who falls into the left-libertarian camp -- no big surprises here.

People say that as if the quadrants are the only things that matter — I still, legitimately, find each poster's individual placement interesting. Most of us are in the green quadrant, but you, @200,926 (KBR !sJ6B5l9wzM) and I could debate a wide range of economical and social issues we disagree on for hours.

I consider myself a blend of anarchism and communism.

Question: did you just cheat and use the "make your own chart" page, or actually go through the test and strongly agree or disagree on each question in just the right way to engineer that result? Because I salute you if it's the latter.
Anonymous X replied with this 15 years ago, 3 minutes later, 1 day after the original post[^][v]#201,548
I have taken this test for years and this is the result I always get. Except a tiny bit off from where its at right now.
I don't think my political views could ever be put into practice. The only real political system that works is an Orwellian Dystopia like the one were currently living in.

Seriously? I'm not implying your beliefs are wrong, if that's your actual result. I just don't believe I've ever heard of a hardcore anarchy-communist before.

I'm sure. It's a generalized measure. My result is almost identical to Becky's, and I know her views don't align with mine all the time. A more accurate assessment would probably involve a greater number of axes and a result plotted within a cube or some n-dimensional hyperspace, but the complexity of interpreting it would probably make it uninteresting at that point.
Anonymous X replied with this 15 years ago, 1 minute later, 1 day after the original post[^][v]#201,553
Primitive anarchist communist to be exact. I think society and technology would have to be completely annihilated and we would have to return to living in small tribes for it to ever have any chance to working. I live in a cave right now, just come to my mom's place to eat and use the internet.

I am definitely not joking. I think humans are way too wicked for any political system to work except the most brutal dictatorship. I would live in the cave full time except its not my land and I just moved from living off-grid so the transition is rough. Plan on living deep in the wilderness one day away from all of this. The off grid living and the cave are just practice.

I don't think you give yourself enough credit. You seem intelligent and, at the very least, have a great deal of conviction in your ideals. The latter part can probably be explained by being a bit of a recluse instead of just having an unlikable personality.
