It sounds like you haven't been near a cult.
You get drugs and sex when you join, to pull you in. Then they pull back on your pharmaceutical and hooker benefits and tell you that you can get more if you pay and recruit for them.
Back in the 80s I got captagon tablets and some slavic chick i thought was my girlfriend provided by a ufo cult that recruited me with a street magician. then they cut me back on pills and sex and she convinced me to help her steal cars from my cousins.
This all happened in LA. Narcotics anonymous here is half full of people that got sucked into one cult or another.
All my dick veins are blown from the parties they would throw in a custom built rave room in a downtown warehouse.

Yes. I never officially deregistered, I just ghosted them when I finally sobered up. If they don't clear the inactive members, they might still consider me to be one.

My tithe was 33% of my income towards the end of it, I just wanted to take my pills, work, fuck my handler and go to sleep.
There's a lot of corporations set up here, masquerading as a religion and they know exactly what buttons to push to maximize the profit of some poor sap quick.
A lot of these places don't have an official name. Some "guru" will pop up, convince a few yuppies to take out a mortgage, and then he disappears before anyone can get the word out.
What Scientology or LDS can do makes this all look like amateur hour.
