im liking the center channel so far. on this old country compilation (dolly, Charley, chet etc.) it fills out the sound pretty well compared to 2 channels. i turned the center volume down to an acceptable level. ill try it with a new record next

What's the idea here? Is it just mixing the stereo signal down to mono and playing that through a third speaker?

yeah, that's pretty much what Dolby pro logic and 5 channel stereo on my old Denon receiver do (5ch sounds better) but it kind of fixes the sweet spot for my floor speakers into place
