Despite this, India's fertility rate has fallen to 2.0 children per woman which is below the 2.1 children per woman needed to maintain a stable population.
China, in contrast, is in a state of complete free fall with only 1.1 children per woman. Good fucking riddance.
Current estimates suggest that the world population will reach a maximum of 9 billion people 30 years from now and then begin to decline. For the first time in modern history, the world population will very likely shrink and most of us here today will be alive to see it.
Meanwhile, testosterone levels and markers of both male and female fertility continue to plummet, as they have since around the 1970s, which, perhaps not coincidentally, was around the time birth rates began to fall across the world. What a time to be alive.
