They are not a race. The idea that they are comes from their religion. It's an idea that was never based in reality any more than the idea that a man parted the seas with nothing more than the well wishes of another man living in the sky.

23andme is a for profit corporation catering to a customer base with pre-defined expectations. It is not and never has been a scholar in human racial identity.
The scholarly literature on the question is nothing short of a mess (not a huge surprise given its early history). Many, probably most, people in the field have what any reasonable person would call, at best, a conflict of interest. Nowadays, this is mostly toward seeing the religion as a race. Despite that, the truth still eventually comes out:
> Despite extensive efforts[16] in recent decades to identify genotypic common denominators that might be associated with Biblical Israelites, it has become "overwhelmingly clear", as noted by Raphael Falk, that while detectable genetic continuity exists in Jewish populations across generations, "there is no Jewish genotype to identify" and "genetic markers cannot determine Jewish descent".[17][18]

Actually, to revise what I said: This has always been the case. The reason for wanting it to be seen as a race is basically the same as it was in the 1900s (with just a minor sign flip in intentions, heh)

There are diseases that tend to strike Jewish people more than others. Also, many Jews are athiests and they are still Jewish. Cant say that about Christians

They call themselves something so it must make it true in a real genetic sense and not merely an identity? That's the not world I live in. My genome doesn't change simply because I call myself a Martian, or a Norse god.

Do you think if Jews get included because they have light skin, that some day people might include the dutch for their light skin too?
Race is about pheramones, metabolism, neurology, and much more than just "light skinned".

Remember that controversy like 6 years ago when Israel took in a bunch of Ethiopian Jewish refugees and gave them health check ups, but in actuality they sterilized them?

Yeah, despite that they still identify as Jews and do their best to practise Judaism, but that doesn't make them ethnically Jewish... unless you're one of those people who actually believes you can change your innate biological characteristics simply by saying it and believing it very very hard.
> Their ethnicity is as important to them as their religion.
Their ethnicity is a core part of their religion. It has never and will never exist outside of that, despite their wishes otherwise.

Fun fact Bene Israel aka subcontinental Indian Jews who are technically Mizrahi, started Bollywood and many were famous Bollywood actors and actress, fled India after it achieved independence and now the vast majority live in Israel with a small remnant in India
