According to government data, my local school district takes in $17,088 a year per student across all grades. You can send your kid to the local private K-8 for $4,500 a year (much less if you have more then 1 kid enrolled) and you can send your kid to the local private high school for $7,160 a year. That's savings of $174,592 over the course of your child's education. In other words, public school is a shameless rip off.

Some states offer vouchers for private schools, you still pay the same taxes, but you get some kind of refund or some shit, I can't remember the details.

I absolutely agree with this sentiment! I genuinely don't understand why some people WILLINGLY have kids. You have to birth them, you have to feed them, you have to clean their poopy diapers, you have to potty train them, you have to teach them, you have to put up with their crying, you have to read to them, you have to pay for day care, you have to pay for their food, you have to pay for their education. It never stops!

Just out of curiosity, are you emotionally distant from them, or is "I love you" just not a sentiment that was ever really expressed (with frequency, at least) in your family? I can't think of how just throwing in "I love you" at the end of a conversation with your parents would warrant suspicion form them.
