It's unpredictable, because you don't know how the dice will land.

The outcome is a surprise, and surprises increase dopamine in the prefrontal cortex where people make decisions about future behavior.

Dopamine reinforcement leads to ingrained neural pathways that cause the subject to play the game again when given the chance.

Wizards of the coast is reprograming the youth to roleplay as the alternate gender to cause them to self-sterilize.

it's just a cooperative puzzle and problem solving game. the fun is in the game design and challenges setup by the DM and novel problem solving skills and imagination of the players and has an RNG luck element.

it's basically poker but with story telling but low risk and the reward is just entertainment.

Literally anything can be made high risk by adding money and gambling to it. That's why horse races and countless other sports are so centered around it. No one would give a shit otherwise.

Does anyone do this for Dungeons and Dragons? Idk. But maybe they should.

I'm sure it's done privately, gaming laws regarding gambling are regulated in the US. there's ways around some aspects, like raffles and junk, state laws make national coordination difficult. even sweepstakes and stuff have rules regarding prizes. then there's games with limited assets and stuff and aftermarkets where trade happens and people buy and sell collectibles -idk for fact, but I think magic the gathering had to drop rules that were close to gambling where players could risk losing cards in gameplay to opponents. it was always a trading card game, but if I remember correctly cards could be won. and if you remember POGS that was too much like gambling and I think it was just parents who got butthurt over that, but, yeah, even that shit got attention over organized gambling.

but, in private games gambling is fine as long as there's no rake or cut for the house. and games can be played for non cash prizes publicly for no profit- I think, but even for charity you have to get permission from regulatory commissions if I'm not mistaken.

big daddy tax man just wants their cut, work for it or not. gifts under a certain amount are OK. but, shit, even gifts are regulated above a certain point.

rich people problems.

I do like the horse track. outstanding first date potential I always found.

if you want to gamble on DnD you'd want really airtight scenarios and stuff, it's kinda subjective, the DM often has to make judgement calls. clear rules and game state resolution would need to be pretty flawless. outside of casino gaming, and sports like you mentioned, board games like chess and stuff, stock markets, money markets, etc.

Noone is betting on the weather, but, I guess people could.

we could put money on which minichanner dies next if we wanted, but, I'm not holding anything in escrow for that. but, PayPal does have escrow services I think? idk, people play games they like for just fun to sometimes.

Since people literally bet on dice rolls alone, I'd say betting on weather sounds reasonable as anything else at least.

Actually, come to think of it, people do bet on the weather. It's called insurance and the pot is billions of dollars large.
