I've had a sore throat and a horrible cough for a week now and I keep coughing up these huge, thick globs of yellow-gray mucous. I coughed so much last night I think I pulled a muscle in my side because it hurts now too. There is no point to this post, I just feel like complaining.

No but I don't know if my insurance would cover going to a walk in clinic for something that would clear up on its own, and by the time I could get in to see my primary doctor it would probably be gone. If it gets any worse I'll try going to a walk in though.

This is literally all they'd tell you to do, after spending several hours waiting surrounded by other contagious people sick with who knows what. That and a bill costing well above that of just buying the medicine from the pharmacy yourself.

Something like 90% of bronchitis cases are due to a viral infection, not bacterial; meaning antibiotics are useless for all those cases. Multiple medical organisations recommend against prescribing antibiotics for bronchitis. It's only in the rare case of whooping cough that it's recommended to prescribe them. And given that: (A) OP probably lives in a developed country and (B) OP probably has already been vaccinated against it, this seems incredibly unlikely.
Also, antibiotics can be bought online without a prescription quite easily if you know where to look. So even if it were a good idea to use them, it doesn't suggest crowding him in a room with other sick people with his already compromised immune system would be a good idea anyway.
