I gave the user who was banned a very specific way in which he could avoid being banned in the future, and told him the lesson he was supposed to learn from the banning. I was more helpful than I needed to be. I will accept his gratitude at any point.

Yeah, avoid being banned by obeying the made up rule that should not exist in the first place. Also, Meta is not my "teacher" with "lessons" to be learned.
