I feel like their mission is harmed a bit by them calling it the "R-word" everywhere else. You just used "nigger" (and every other racial slur you could fit in thirty seconds) without calling it the "N-word," didn't you? Hell, you used "retard" itself in the ad. Just use the word.
The fact is, you're never going to reach who you want to with these ads. There will always be idiots who think "nigger," "retard," "faggot," etc. are insults, or who think that the groups of people the words apply to are acceptable to look down upon. Sticking Sue Sylvester in your ads won't get the people who actually throw that word around to stop. Reclaiming is the only method that has ever actually seemed to work. It's not that I don't empathize with not wanting those words thrown around, because there are slurs that apply to myself that do affect me, but I've only rarely seen them stop using it when its effect is brought to their attention. They usually just throw vague jabs at sensitivity around, directly followed by using the word again. It's a lost effort before you even try.
