Today on the way the way home from school, I made a right turn from a stop sign and gave my car (1999 Audi A4 113k miles, auto trans) a good amount of gas, to avoid slowing down the guy I pulled in front of. No, I didn't cut him off, I just had to speed up a bit to keep from making him brake.
While I was giving it gas, I was accelerating fine. Then, suddenly, I lost all torque and the RPMs shot up like I was in neutral. I looked at the dash, said I was in drive. Let the RPMs fall, tried gas, nothing. Just more revs.
I pulled over and put it into neutral, then back to drive, and everything seemed normal. I went forward when I pressed the gas.
I did some research on common signs of transmission issues, and this was one of them. Also, one was "a slight RPM drop, as if your car shifted gears but it didn't." The slight RPM drop happens in 3rd, a almost every time, but I never though anything of it.
Should I get it looked at? I mean an inspection couldn't hurt, and I read that prevention is cheaper than replacement.
Any advice appreciated, Thanks.
