I feel like there is some deja vu in this statement.
Mostly what seems to happen is that those serious threads go ignored unless they have some serious controversial nature about them. That or they get ruined by shitposters alike and that's what we're discussing in the sticky about avoiding.

The only way that the atmosphere could be truly replicated is if someone was willing to run a spam bot 24-7 advertising the place. Without doing so, the place would be without the hostility that AT had, part of what made it fun and interesting.

I think the interesting discussion is how to attract more people. Without that, discussions of what the rules should be on various boards are pretty pointless -- no one is willing to enforce those rules seriously enough, because that means just driving too many people away.

On the contrary, I think how the board is setup and how it is run is what attracts people to join some forums. If you build something and set it up well, some people will like what they see and join it.
