Hasbro gave the team a bunch of characters that they HAD to include, so they just put them in once and forgot about them. I think they did Owlowiscious like that but had Gummy the Alligator appear more than once because Twilight already has Spike.

Twilight had an owl (which had fans of the show complaining until Owls Well That Ends Well) and Pinkie Pie had a mouse for some reason, but they gave her an alligator called Gummy in the show. Gummy has no teeth, which is why he's called Gummy. Pic realted, it's gummy.
