You have to figure out what Europe is to answer the question. It's not a distinct continent because it's attached to asia, for one.

That makes it more of a cultural/political entity then.

Culturally the UK is very distinct, it's the birthplace of: analytic philosophy, the steam engine, and capitalism.

Europe is the EU, and some countries closely attached to the EU. The UK is distinct, and has connections to the commonwealth and America.

UK =/= Europe.

Africa isn't connected to Eurasia, except by bridge. Geographically, it's distinct.

North/South America were so thinly connected, a canal could split them, so 2 continents.

and Australia.

If you can dig a trench and separate it into two, maybe it's not one continent.

It would be impossible for someone to split Europe and Asia in two this way, hence one continent.
