well in the episode of Star Trek Voyager named Think Tank, a group of very smart individuals found themselves in such a situation, and were being fired upon by another space ship, crewed by people that they had been unkind to!

that episode is a good example of where tng succeeded at what voyager doesn't. those think tank guys were pretty unlikeable the whole time
