That's what the recruiter told me on the phone when I called them. Truck driving is actually pretty good money. Wait, are you Matt doing some shitck?

1st rule of trucking recruiters, a lot of company recruiters will lie to you to get you to come in.

That depends on two things, are they giving you good miles or are you just fucking off and driving as least as possible? You can make good money, but you are the one who has to want to drive to make that money.
I'm finding the 70 per mile to start thing a little off though. You might start somewhere between 30 to 45 cents a mile, but not 70.

How did you learn to drive a semi and how long did it take for you to feel comfortable on the road? I've driven small cars my entire life and while truck driving as a concept really appeals to me, the idea of driving such a large, clunky, unfamiliar vehicle makes me anxious.

A friend of mine taught me everything I needed to know to pass the test. When he was home on the weekends, he would let me drive along the road he lived on to practice. After a few months, we went to the DMV, and I passed.
It doesn't take long to get used to driving it. It's just getting used to handling the truck, turns, and backing up that can take time.
Just be calm and get comfortable behind that wheel and you'll be fine.

Don't get an automatic restricted license, get some experience under your belt, keep a clean record and you can eventually make some decent money. Some guys love the OTR life and it's a great way to see the country and have a lot of unique experiences. You can also save a crap ton of money if you're careful and basically live out of your truck.
Experienced drivers in my area can make 100k home every night. I'm paid hourly and wouldn't even consider anything less than $25 an hour with great benefits.
