Topic: Brilliant Invention in the History of Personal Computers

Anonymous A started this discussion 3 years ago #107,358

Have you ever taken the time to glance down at your phone and not to scroll through endless feeds or check the latest happenings on the chanosphere? Have you ever stopped to take a minute to realize that you have a literal computer in the palm of your hand that does everything that you would have only been able to do back on desktop PCs? Going even further such an idea would have been dismissed as science fiction Star Trek technology and unlikely to happen despite there being a few failed attempts prior to the first iPhone/iPad. This little wonder is truly a magnificent sight to behold even if the novelty has worn off.

But I don't have or want a smart phone and am using a desktop computer. Not a laptop, but a desktop computer.

The first Star Trek didn't even have touchscreens, so it's more advanced than anything they could imagine.

I don't find those small rectangle things very good for things for the cost

The ‘90s also didn’t have the technology we do now so they’re still count. The Next Generation essentially predicted the PADD. Steve Jobs must have wanted to be more original.

What do you do when you go out or need to catch a ride via Uber?
Pay phones are a rarity these days.
You’re going to have to use something.

I do not use Uber, Facebook, Twitter, or anything else that rapes your privacy (and neither should you). I haven't actually written anything anywhere in my name or nickname outside of this site. If you want to contact me, use the reply form. If you communicated with "me" in any other way, or read something written by "me", it was almost certainly a mentally ill impostor/liar. I've got nothing whatsoever to do with any of it. Believe it or not.

Alan Kay "predicted" the iPad by inventing the Dynabook in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Thanks

Also, tablet computers have been a thing since at least the 90s, and Apple had a prototype or two floating around in the 80s.
