I want your opinion on this.
I've been away for the weekend to find my Xbox, Xbox controller, a few UMD's and a xbox game have been robbed BUT my laptop and TV were left.
My friend and I went out on the friday and he stayed over. I left him to let himself out as I needed to be up early to catch a train.
I've come back to find all the stuff robbed.
I live on my own in a 7 bedroom house so the only people that have access to this house are myself and the two landlords.
At the moment there is renovations and that going on here and today a workman was fitting a dishwasher alone here.
Last point, my landlord reckons that some of the previous tenants still may have keys to this place.
Some points to consider;
1) I've only known my friend for 3 months and when I asked him if he knew anything, didn't seem shifty or elusive or even defensive, at all. And the Xbox game that was taken, was his...but the case was left.
2) The contractor was asked by my landlord and he came back to fit a new lock...can't see why he'd risk his job over a shitty 2 year old xbox.
3) The previous tenants wouldn't have known I would have been away for the entire weekend.

When your friend let himself out, he left the door unlocked and someone came by and just walked in and took your shit, probably just what they could get their hands on to get in and out as quickly as possible without being spotted. Didn't have time to come back for the laptop and TV.

That was the first thing I thought, but my door is a yale lock so it only needs to be shut to be locked and he said he did that. And the landlord found the place locked.

Hmm. I can't imagine why your friend would do this (it's so obvious), but I certainly wouldn't be letting him stay over anymore.

Yeah, I wanted other peoples opinions so I could look at it objectively. I have to work with the lad tomorrow, can imagine it's gonna be quite uncomfortable.

If there are a lot of people coming and going during the renovations, I'd sooner suspect one of the workers. Is there any reason to suspect your friend other than just having had the opportunity? I don't see how stealing your Xbox would do anything but put him in an awkward position if you two spend time together, trade games back and forth, etc.

If your Xbox has a distinct mark on it (Like stickers or a dent or something) then you could go ask around Cash Generator or Mays Pawnbrokers or whatever you have in your town and see if anyone pawned off your xbox. Then you might get a description of the person who sold it.
Also it could have been someone unrelated who was casing the place and noticed that there was work going on and no residents in the place.
