Not really, it's pretty much the same speed and power, but you can go a little faster. Without a trailer, you can definitely go up a hill a lot faster.
Some companies have their trucks set at certain speeds, so you'll go the same speed with or without a trailer.

Sometimes in driving I get really mad at you big rig ni🅱️🅱️as for driving slow as shit and blocking shit up all the time with your 50 foot trailers, and then I remember how happy I am that I have stuff on store shelves I can buy.
Thank you for your service! 😊
Fuck military discounts, stores need to offer CDL discounts instead because you guys are the real heroes working long lonely hours to keep America going.
We consider it drag racing when you get two trucks running side by side at nearly the same speed. Neither wants to give any leeway to the other, and they are the ones that hold up traffic.

I've gone as fast as 90-95. I try not to overdo it so I don't burn up my brakes. That jake brake don't always hold you back.

I'm sorry Meta, I'll try to let you go around next time!
Usually we go the slowest when loaded and going uphill. When I'm loaded with between 45,000 and 50,000 pounds of sheetrock, I drag ass on steep uphills and my speed will be anywhere from 15 to 20 mph.
There are a few places that offer cdl discounts, like hotels and some restaurants. There used to be a lot of them, but they are getting rare to find.
Let's not leave the military out, they are more heroes than we are. 👍👍

I really like it when you guys haul ass down I10 at like 80.
One thing I wonder - I notice in heavy traffic when it's hard to get merged on the freeway, 18 wheelers are usually the most courteous about letting people in front of them. Why is that? Are you worried about tapping someone's bumper and getting sued? Trucks too slow to close up the gap? Are big rig drivers just that nice? Not complaining at all but I always wondered why 🤔

Yeah, for the most part, we being nice, but sometimes being nice bites us in the ass. Either I'll move over to let you in, then you sit there and ride beside me, no matter how long I have my turn signal on. That irritates the piss out of me.
Or I'll move over and the impatient assholes behind me will jump in the right lane, get behind you just to get in front of me, and usually other cars follow.
I'll only be worried about tapping the bumper in front of me if I'm at fault. I have a dash camera and if you're the one at fault, I have proof. I've pissed off enough people that they get in front of me and brake check me. Stupidest thing to do to an 18 wheeler.
We can keep the gap closed, but that just ups our chance of rear ending someone.

Yeah I try not to ride on the side of 18 wheelers because my odds of winning in a collision aren't good. Maybe the Texas Traffic Code says you have to yield to me if you want to change lanes but Newton's Laws disagree and guess which one is always enforced?

Well technically, if you're coming on the interstate, you're the one who's supposed to yield. I'll usually ease up on the pedal and slow a bit if I can't move over. The people I love are the ones who are up ahead a little ways, and all they have to do is move over and go... but nooooooo, all of a sudden they hit their brakes and let me pass. Then once they get out there, they pass me and give me the finger.
Hey, dickhead, you had plenty of room.... lol 🙄🙄🙄
But between the traffic law and newton's law, I'll go with newton's... you would be on the losing side of things if something goes wrong.

Think I read your first line wrong. If I want to move over into the lane you're already in, then yes, I have to yield to you.

i just don't like when y'all suddenly need to pass the other truck going uphill on a 2 lane highway. shit takes forever and half the time they wait until right as i'm about to pass both of them to turn on the signal and jump in front of me. i'd have been gone in a few seconds, but nah

I can't control what the other drivers do, but if I have to pass, I'll wait until there's no one coming, or the next vehicle is still a good ways back.
