Topic: Will I always be single?

JIM started this discussion 3 years ago #106,684

I never have the balls to talk to a girl I like, I don't make a lot of money (I'm working on it), and I'm average looking.

Maybe, put less attention on it and find other stuff to do instead of persue women and maybe they'll start to persue you in return?

Right. Maybe focus more on yourself before trying to convince a woman she should focus on you.

I don't really pursue women though. I want them a whole lot, I'd love to have a qt girlfriend to cuddle with, but I don't actively approach or chase them ever at all. I rarely interact with women, except for maybe brief encounters when one is working in a retail setting. I never have natural conversations with women.

I'm working on school right now, just started a new job to get a little bit of money coming in, and I've been improving my appearance. I'm still not turning any heads though.

More along the lines of put it out of your mind even, try to not think about your desire, unless during like using it to focus on a task for a goal, but don't let needing a woman in your life pervade your constant thoughts and motivations.

My gf chased after me, which is odd cause it was usually me doing the chasing. Finally started dating and we've been together for about 17 years.

I don't know how to though. That's the thing. I don't know how to get over the fear that I will never have a wife and children and be able to pass on my legacy to a new generation. My brothers are married with kids. My cousins are married with kids. I'm the only one that isn't and I'm running out of time to find a childfree woman who wants to start a family.

It's hard for me to relate in the family pressure aspect as I'm an only child, and I don't have any good advice on how to put that fear out of your mind, but in my experience, once I stop focusing on the negative aspects of some possible future, I find more time/energy to focus on things in my life that may be constructive for a better future

I feel like that's one of my life's purposes. I can't really explain it, other than when I see a father with a young son it makes me get a little emotional because I'd like to feel that bond. I have nieces and nephews that I love dearly, but they're growing up and growing away from me.

Not trying to be mean, but do you think you're equipped to be a parent?

Not only is it expensive, but do you have the right moral code to teach kids right from wrong?

Also, why are your genes worth passing on? I'm asking that part because you dont want to date a single parent

The world is a shitty, horrible place, that is already overpopulated, and there are thousands upon thousands of children already here without parents who need someone to take care of them and guide them. I think it is selfish for anyone to actively want to bring additional children into the world just to satisfy some egotistical desire to pass on your genes.

I realize that perhaps my views on the subject are a little extreme. And of course, if everyone on earth stopped having kids then it would be a problem. But I think that anyone who has the means to should adopt instead of procreate. Your genes aren't special, you don't need to pass them on. But you can use your resources (money, time, love) to help a child already here who needs help, instead of creating a new child to help.

JIM (OP) replied with this 3 years ago, 4 minutes later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,198,979

Those children are not my responsibility. If I'm going to go through the hell of raising a child, I want to know that I created that child. It is narcissistic, but everybody is a little bit narcissistic.

Anonymous J replied with this 3 years ago, 4 minutes later, 3 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,198,982

@previous (JIM)
It is indeed narcissistic. You could help the world be a slightly better place overall by decreasing a human being's suffering, but having a kid that looks like you is more important than that.

I'm sorry, but if someone jacks off into a jar and then a woman uses a turkey baster to get pregnant, that man should not be held legally responsible to the child. It's ridiculous. If the child wants anything to do with his biological father, the father should just say "I just jacked off into a jar. You mean nothing to me".

I'm a good, but troubled person. I wouldn't make the best parent, but no parent is ever the best parent. As for whether or not I can afford them: I am not in a place in my life where I can afford them right now. But the goal isn't to have them right away. I'd like to meet a girl so that we can build towards that.

Which is rubbish

You should consider therapy before breeding
