Pi symbol is very grainy in a theater but in standard def TV, you can't even tell that it was supposed to be grainy

Older video games sometimes have effects in them that can't be properly displayed on LED, LCD televisions, because they depend on how the CRT works to work.

I just noticed it on my own, doesn't surprise other people have. There really should be some options for enjoying these things as intended. Besides hunting down and/or paying exorbitant prices for old tech.

meant to be? if it was shot on film and they didn't want it in high resolution, the director fucked up

Not true. Some movies use lo-fi to their advantage, and it enhances the experience.

Clerks no longer has the same feeling in high definition, it robs you of feeling like you're watching it from CCTV cameras of the time.

still feels like a directoral fuck up. if he never wanted an HD transfer then he should have burned the film after transferring it to VHS

Is it a mistake to do everything in your power to get your first movie into theatres? This was his first movie, and was filmed on a budget of <$28,000($230,000 after getting rights to the songs in the movie). It sounds to me like he did everything he could to make it a high quality movie, and that meant using 16mm black and white film stock, and cleverly hiding the low budget behind crafty camera work. Maybe it doesn't matter that much to him anymore, he made $4,000,000 box office off it. However, I feel like there's value in preserving the work done to make it receive $4,000,000 box office.

there's value in preserving the work, but not in presenting it on an HD display? sorry, but this is a weird take

It can be HD, but I don't think it's really worth the effort to do so if what was once part of the movie's charm is now digitized, obvious defects.

is your claim that a release of Clerks is missing effects? that's different than being upset that it's presented in HD

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 3 years ago, 3 minutes later, 19 hours after the original post[^] [v] #1,198,000

@previous (C)

I don't think it's missing effects, I think HD emphasizes the flaws to a degree that takes away from the movie's overall enjoyability.

got any examples of these supposed flaws?

I'm not about to sit through to try and catch screenshots. If you don't agree, that's fine, you don't have to.

what are you talking about though? you don't seem busy anyway, you could probably go get some screenshots instead of acting aloof

OP remembers they don't enjoy Clerks anymore but doesn't remember why, refuses to refresh their memory in order to justify their misremembered opinion
