Oh but I have been sleep paralysed twice. The second time I managed, through sheer force of will, to lift up my arm which got me out of it instantly.

jump? joined in and replied with this 15 years ago, 6 hours later, 9 hours after the original post[^] [v] #189,896

It's a lot easier if you go to sleep and set an alarm for like 6 hours and try after waking up.

I've done it a few times. When it's worked, it works very quickly. When it doesn't, it doesn't.

Meowth joined in and replied with this 15 years ago, 5 hours later, 15 hours after the original post[^] [v] #190,253

Rofl. What the fuck? I lucid dream every night. Lucid dreaming isn't just being able to control your dreams, but you must first recognize you are in a dream. I've never heard of flipping a light switch, however I have a few methods myself that I check even when I'm awake. Look at your reflection or in a mirror. You won't see yourself. I see someone else that isn't me. Well it's like me but isn't me. I would never dress the way I do in my dreams. Check your fingertips or extreme detail. You won't be able to make it out. Also think of how you arrived at a certain place. For example, if your dream is taking place at a school, who drove you there? Ya know? Well, yeah. I dunno. I never read those guides, I just always been able to do it.

Unintentional Jackass !LASXURl1b6 joined in and replied with this 15 years ago, 2 minutes later, 15 hours after the original post[^] [v] #190,255

Why bother with that rubbish? I just lucid dream by falling asleep imagining. Essentially, you never stop imagining, the imagination just gets more vivid, and you feel the sensations better as you sleep. It's like running before you hit the ground. It was easy to start lucid dreaming with this method.

Yes, I know. Insomnia or something. I'm lucky, I lay down, close my eyes, start imagining, and I'm always asleep within ten minutes (I think, I have no way of telling, really), if that is my intention.

"Lucid dream
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A lucid dream is a dream in which one is aware that one is dreaming. The term was coined by the Dutch psychiatrist and writer Frederik (Willem) van Eeden (1860–1932).[1] In a lucid dream, the dreamer can actively participate in and manipulate imaginary experiences in the dream environment.[2] Lucid dreams can seem real and vivid.[3]
A lucid dream can begin in one of two ways. A dream-initiated lucid dream (DILD) starts as a normal dream, and the dreamer eventually concludes it is a dream, while a wake-initiated lucid dream (WILD) occurs when the dreamer goes from a normal waking state directly into a dream state, with no apparent lapse in consciousness.
Lucid dreaming has been researched scientifically, and its existence is well established."

I have such dreams on occasion and usually after some very serious sex with GF which means not a quicky.

Wot u describe is more a nightmare

If you are trying to induce it, it's not like "waking" to sleep paralysis. You do it to enter into a lucid dream state where you can do anything.

It's so worth it.

The guide isn't great. You want to sleep first. I'd say set your alarm for 6 hours. Then, after waking, follow the guide.

If you can focus on an image in your mind, I find that works best. Just a single, stationary image. Try to not hold on to any other thoughts. Focus on the detail.

Thread's tl;dr so this may have been mentioned already, but melatonin can be used to have very vivid dreams because of how it extends REM sleep. It's an OTC supplement with very little toxicity so you can take a lot and not worry too much. The only side-effects of taking too much are nausea and vivid nightmares, but that's if you were to take more than 60mg.

I recommend buying 2 bottles, one of 1mg rapid release tablets, and one of 10mg timed-release tablets. Melatonin only has a half-life of 30-45 minutes once it's in your body, so the timed-released tablets are good for ensuring that you have melatonin in your system throughout the REM cycle. I like the rapid release ones simply because they get me to sleep fast. I would take 5 of each pill, so you'll have 5 mg rapidly released and another 50mg released over the next several hours. I've done this to help me get to sleep and stay asleep without using dangerous prescription sleep aids, but as a side-effect I've had very vivid dreams lately.

This in combination with other supplements and techniques for lucid dreaming should get you where you need to go.
