That's like saying that no reasonable person could possibly believe that taxes are high enough and that we could have a balanced budget with our current taxes, or less than our current taxes. There is nothing unreasonable about making all the cuts that article suggests and not raising any taxes. In fact, it's probably the most reasonable thing to do because it would create a surplus that would allow us to start paying off the debt, and possibly/eventually lower taxes. What's unreasonable about cutting the budget to the point that we can lower taxes?

Reducing the federal workforce by 10%, an option you chose, puts 200,000 people out of work. It's unfair to balance the budget by harming millions of people who need the programs you would cut, especially when taxes on the rich are far lower than they've ever been, and a small tax increase would hardly cause any harm to them or the national economy. In the interest of fairness and of minimizing harm, you'd have to raise taxes a little bit to close the deficit.
