Then I will post it when it's done! If just one person outside of my closest IRL friends listens to it, then I will consider it a success

Bandcamp yes, I haven't decided if I want to add the option to pay for it or not though. I don't want to come off as begging, especially since it's mostly just a handful of friends who will ever hear it.

Yeah, IF I give people the option to pay for it, that's what I'll do. I want it to be free, but if someone is feeling generous and wants to give me a dollar or something, cool. It will make me feel good.

when I buy something from an artist on Bandcamp I'll throw in a few extra bucks, pay for it if I don't have to, buy a tote bag or cassette something if I really like them. I don't have to pay, but i want to give my money to the artist

I say "almost done" but it will probably still be a couple weeks. I don't have much motivation these days so even though it's close, progress is still slow. I started writing songs like a year and a half ago though so a couple weeks is no time at all in comparison. I may have jumped the gun making this thread but I was having a good day and made a lot of progress the day I posted it and just felt like talking about it with someone.

Lol I wanted to avoid funny names but something fora related would be obscure enough that most people wouldn't find it funny.
@1,182,523 (shelly)
Yeah, I guess technically it isn't a "band" name, just a pseudonym.

I think most of us, even here, don't find it funny lol

I've considered using an old nickname of mine, but it's already a band that exists! I was super bummed when I found that out. Maybe I could incorporate the nickname somehow. Like "the [nickname] experience" or something less cringey. I've also considered using the fora name I typically post under but I think it might be trademarked or something. I should look into that actually.

I just hit 50 views on my album page! That's like 5x more than I expected! Thank you friends! This truly is the love fora. Of course 50 views isn't 50 streams but I count any eyes on it at all as a win!

Fora, will you listen to my downer indie bedroom rock EP?
I'm not far from finishing up a few songs that I chose not to include on the album because they didn't quite fit in stylistically. They're different enough that, if you did not like the album, maybe you will like these!
If you listen to one amateur bedroom-produced indie rock EP this Yom Kippur, make it this one!
If the album I posted before wasn't your thing, this one has a bit of a different vibe! There's also more stylistic variety in the tracklist on this one.

Dude this was yup! I dig it man, it hits dude. I wanna fuck with it
I know I already heard this and commented, but fuck it, I dig it, dude. The bass line in the 1:49 or :50 shit is fun, in my head it got a little too busy but this is golden

I've passed 200 individual streams between the album and EP. I know a good chunk of those came from here, so thank you fora! Thanks for listening and allowing me to shill without consequences.
Working on new stuff but also taking my time to learn more about music theory and production, and improving my skills with my instruments and singing. My goal is to improve with each release!

That is great to hear that this helped inspire you to get back to music! That makes me feel really good. I hope you update us when you make something so we can hear it!
Forgot to say, if you want stems or something for the song for mixing in new guitar parts let me know.

Thanks for listening, I'm glad you liked it! Also very glad you're still feeling inspired, I hope you make something cool and post it here for us. What kind of gear do you have? There is a lot you can do with surprisingly little these days.

i only listened to harvestmen because i am very sleepy and dont want to break down every track, but i liked it well enough. i want that down because i want this to not seem as mean as i am going to inevitably come off: you really need either a producer or the skills to mix and master this better. you can pick up those skills yourself, honestly, there's a lot of tools out there for it. but for example, during the first verse, the instrumentation is pretty sparse, which puts the emphasis on your voice, but your voice is mixed in a way that makes it sort of reject being heard as the leading track. there's no emphasis on anything, but not in a way where it crosses the line twice into a wall of droning noise that would make it more shoegaze-like (which is also an admirable goal!)
like, when harvestmen moves from the bridge to the final chorus, i can really feel what you're going for. slowing down and pulling back on the bridge before the last chorus is a classic trick. it's crying out for a frantic, triumphant drum fill to bring you into the final chorus. and there may very well be one, but if there is, i couldn't hear it.

Thanks for listening. Yeah, mixing and mastering are not my strong points at all, but I do think that this release was an improvement in both of those areas over the last release, which was an improvement over the first. I'm still very much a beginner in all this, and one of my goals is to get a little better with each release. That said, I am considering just sending off the next thing to someone else for that stage of the process, as my main interests are in writing and recording, but I'll make that decision when the time comes. I appreciate the honest feedback, and I hope you listen to the next thing and hear some improvement!

shameless plug bump
In preparation for the release of a new album next friday, I have uploaded my older material to all the streaming platforms! Here's a spotify link but it's also on apple music, amazon music, youtube music, etc. Check it out and let me know what you think! https://open.spotify.com/artist/2Q82D2uWqTy0Ug536W1jBM
I am so incredibly proud of this album. I've spent the last year improving my writing, performing, and producing skills. I sincerely feel that this is by far the best material I have put out. So even if you weren't a fan of the older stuff, this may surprise you! It would mean the world to me if you gave this one a listen!

Thank you!! I truly appreciate that! Most of the footage for this album's Youtube videos came from a road trip I took a few years back that largely inspired the whole road tripping theme of the album.

I was just jammin on your music and watching the road speed by and I thought..man I know that stretch. I went to school there too, or took a few classes really. But either way your music is good. Keep it up!
