I am removing my internal CD driveto make room for a cooling rig. I bought an external CD drive that is nicer. So, how do I remove the internal in terms of letting Windows know it is gone? Thanks.

Just take it out. Windows won't care, assuming you aren't still on Windows 98 or something. Even then I'm not sure it would care.
