> A bill backed by House Democrats would give President Joe Biden authority to declare an energy emergency that would make it unlawful to increase gasoline and home energy fuel prices in an “excessive” or exploitative manner.
Question: why only target "excessive" prices? Why not just set the price of gasoline to $1.00/gal?
If you can answer that question, you might be able to figure out why people voted against this ridiculous law.

Because "the market" can work well often, but when it is so expensive that people can literally not afford it, it needs to be regulated.

If people literally cannot afford it, then oil companies won't sell any gasoline and prices will have to fall until people can afford it again (or the oil companies go bankrupt - one of the two).

COVID supply chains, OPEC, war. Remember, OPE is led by dictators, and Trump lived dictators. Why do You think they went up? And if your answer is "hurt durr Biden singlehandedly controls all the oil prices the world", then no need to type it out.

If slow Joe is concerned about high gas prices and such, why does he and you libtards have issues with drilling in this country? Prices would drop dramatically.

It also went down from mid 2014-early 2016. This was before Trump (so that can't be why) and Obama didn't like dictators did he? Why did it go down? Why did it go really high in 2008 (actually significantly higher in real terms than now due to inflation) during the last days of the Bush administration? There were no "COVID supply chains" in 2008, were there?
> Why do You think they went up?
Massive money printing, sanctions against Russia we shouldn't be doing, and restrictions on oil production due to following a retarded doomsday cult. Also oil production was decreased during the worst of the pandemic (as there was reduced demand) and it's harder to ramp up production than shut it down.
> And if your answer is "hurt durr Biden singlehandedly controls all the oil prices the world", then no need to type it out.
No I don't think Biden controls oil prices. I think that if he did we'd have $1 gasoline because that would really help him in the midterms and in 2024. No one likes 1970s style stagflation.

P.S. This is the first time in a decade that you have made a reply that actually makes sense and is reasonable. Please do that more.

I really don't know why you imagine me as this insane foaming at the mouth guy.
Oil has had massive up and down swings under all kinds of presidents. I don't think Trump caused cheap gas prices any more than Bush caused expensive ones.
That being said, price controls are stupid and don't work. It just makes no sense. If Trump had proposed a law to control gas prices, I would be against it just the same. It's not a "my guy good, your guy bad" thing. It's just literally Econ 101.

It's quite possibly real but it's not going to be the end of the world as we know it or this huge cataclysmic thing. That's the doomsday cult part of it, which is retarded.

Global warming canned will absolutely make the world inhospitable to humanity if we do not do something. That is science.

Large fingers, small keys. I am completely sober. See, you were being almost reasonable for a while, but you have fallen back into your angry Autistic mode. Shame.
COVID happened and demand for gas dropped way below expected levels. Gas prices dropped. Sure.
Prices rose again as people started driving more. Sure. When did the market start evening out gas prices? Did they not end up higher? We have more hybrid vehicles then ever on the road.
Shouldn't supply-side economics dictate that the market should lower gas prices given the usual supply of gas and decreasing demand for gas? Why isn't the invisible hand saving us all?!?!?11 Why does gas cost so much??
tl;dr: More people than ever are driving electric and fuel efficient vehicles. We are using less gasoline than ever since the 1950s. Given a free-market, WHY THE FUCK DOES GAS COST SO MUCH?!

Gas would cost a lot less if we weren't engaging in economic warfare with Russia and if oil companies were freely allowed to explore, produce, and refine oil. You can't throw a ton of contrived obstacles and red tape in the oil companies' way, and then whine that the free market isn't working properly. If I replace my car's oil with maple syrup is it Ford's fault when the engine subsequently seizes? No! It's the same with a free market.

Would it? The US produces a lot of oil and most of our imported crude is from Canada, Mexico, and OPEC nations. Eight percent of our imported crude came from Russia in 2021. We're still a net exporter of oil.
