Regarding the latest news about abortion, if you have two areas, one liberal and one conservative, each can make laws controlling things such as abortion.

Things like same sex marriage are different since once a couple are married, they should expect to have continual legal acknowledgement for the rest of their marriage. However a state may decide to ban future marriages.

I can't see contraception being banned anywhere in the US.

Yes, because we have a history of the Southern states doing really good, moral things when left to their own devices.
