Topic: I think he might forget V-D

Anonymous A started this discussion 15 years ago #1,032

I have a feeling my boyfrienf might forgwt Valentine's day this year...should I be mad/upset if he does?

The thought of it kind of makes me upset...because it bothers me when he doesnt consider me in his thoughts...but at the same time, I feel Valentine's day is a bullshit holiday...so should I really care?

I also got him something for tomorrow...so i think it's going to feel odd when i give him his present and he doesnt have anything for me...how should I react...uhg...

I would say that yes, you have a right to be upset. He should be thinking of you.

This is true, but it's like this...my mate may just forget about Valentine's Day, yet still love me.

And this person's girlfriend (http://bunker.minichan.org/topic/1014) well...is outright cheating for Valentine's Day.

Of course he still loves you, but you can't just let it slide, y'know? But, don't bitch at him because he forget, he still loves you, and it's just a day.

Maybe, who knows.

Talk to him about it in a non-confrontational, non-angry way.

Yeah, I know...and that's the thing that makes it complex. It *IS* just a day...we both really hate it. It was originally a Christian holiday, that has turned into something disgusting: A message to people saying you NEED to be nice to your lover, and do something special for them, on *THIS* day, because *WE* say so.

But...shouldn't it be like that everyday? Everyday my partner and me are so romantic with one another. I mean, he doesn't really think of me as much as I would like...but it's still all good.

The thing is...I just am going to feel way awkward when I give him his gift and not have anything in return...which is okay, but I know he will be upset and go on about how much of a shitty boyfriend he is because he forgot, etc....cus the same thing happened with our anniversary. :\

So I'm basically asking for /adv/ on how to feel/react to that. Should I care? Because it's just materialistic shit, and it's playing into a social economic ploy...but at the same time...you know.....every girl wants to be taken out for dinner once in a while that isn't Sonic or Burger King

Aw. :C

Well, maybe, tomorrow IS just a day that people commercialized. But, your anniversary, that's something special that you should both share with eachother. And, if he doesn't think of you as much as you would like him to, maybe you should just move on...? If he can't fully appreciate you for who you really are then he doesn't deserve you, forgetting Valentines is one thing, but forgetting your anniversary is an entirely different thing. But, who knows, maybe he will surprise you really good tomorrow? Keep it posted.

You should be upset. Fake holiday or not is not the point. The point is that he forgot to even mention it.

> if he doesn't think of you as much as you would like him to, maybe you should just move on...?

It's just little things though, really...Like, to clear things up, he didn't forget our anniversary, he just didn't get me anything/do anything for me on that day without me...asking on /the/ day...which I didn't like having to do D:

I wouldn't dream of moving on from him though, however, because he really does treat me well and seems to care about me a lot....and I have a lot of past relationshits I can compare it to.

Thank you for trying to help though :)

@20,462 (Triptych !!DP4/G/5A6)
Yes, that's what I am saying D:

@20,459 (The Continental !!+bfOgzYS+)
Mnn...I was hoping he would kind of ask me if we should do anything special...but,I'm too manly to show I care, and I don't want to act like a typical woman

No one forgets it's valentines day. They just don't give a fuck.

Reminders are all over the fucking place. If he "forgets" he just doesn't care, and if you have told him it's a bullshit holiday he doesn't have a reason to.

Valentines day isn't about you, it's about making money. If it's something that you hbe said isn't important to you your boyfriend thinks its not important.

Don't get all pissed because he didn't give a fuck about giving away money for shitty candy or an overpriced dinner.

You are 100% right...I've had many rants about it in the past. We've been dating for a while...and even though I spoke lowly of the holiday before, he has still gotten me something last year D:

While I have been bashing it, I have also explained that I kind of want to indulge in it at the same time...because I have never had a lover that treats me like he does...so it might be fun.

I wouldn't care if he didn't spend any money on me...a gift doesn't have to be that, but it can be a hand drawn card or even a macaroni picture :)

While I did say I would like to be taken out to a nice restaurant (in general) in a spoiler, it's not something I'll bitch about.

When was the last time you did something for him that wasn't mutually beneficial (meaning sex)?

Really, if you are so worried take him out somewhere. He might like the surprise.

Last week. I basically bought him an expensive dinner and whole bunch of snacks. I do lots of stuff for him all the time, even little things like house work and cleaning up after him...if he realizes it or not :\
