Even though I'm not on the Appalachian Trail yet and still have about two weeks left before I head out. Just starting to get my hiking gear together in-between work days and hours. Getting kind of excited about this, been something I've wanted to do for quite some time. It'll take me about 3 months to do from Maryland/West Virginia line to Georgia. Then maybe next year or 2024, I'll hike from Maine to Maryland/West Virginia line.
So to start off, here is my meals for the first 2 to 3 weeks.

What will you be sleeping in? A tent or places along the way?

I will be carrying a tent, although there are shelters every 10 to 15 miles apart. The tent I will use if the shelters are already filled up with other hikers. If there are more than 2 or 3 hikers in the shelter, more than likely I'll use my tent anyway.

Bears don't rampage. Tie your food in a tree, and just don't mess with the bears.

Nope. The brown bears aren't as aggressive as black bears. Brown bears tend to avoid you(like most animals) unless they feel threatened. Humans aren't one of their basic food groups.

This is very easy to say on the Internet, but when you are staring into the gaping, slavering maw of an angry, rampaging bear which is ready to unwrap your stomach like a candy wrapper, things are not so black and white.

Aren't you scared of inbred, psychopathic hillbillies who want to kill and eat you like in horror movies?

I figure on a trail that has national recognition there would be a less likely chance of that. I'd be more scared on a lesser known trail, like one that's out in bfe and that's where the trailhead starts
