Anyway, idk if it's part of his back story or not, but the merchant has eyes like the villagers in the game, which would indicate he is infected with Las Plagas. Not sure why he would want to help eliminate his own kind, or if he is canonically infected. The RE back story is pretty dense.

The first three are an entirely different beast than 4, 5-6. 7, REmake2, REThreemake, and, 8. I was expecting thereto be a learning curve on the more recent games, but basically they are just an easier version of the original. Everything about their engine is very fluid these days. Item management is a bit cumbersome at times, but that's the worst of it.
I didn't even beat 2 or 3 w/o the strategy guides initially. That was when I was 9 and 11 respectively.
