I assure you that I have a truly marvelous demonstration of this proposition which this margin is too narrow to contain.

I am truly sorry that your education system let you down and/or you got left behind in 3rd grade math. You should know that PEMDAS / BODMAS is flawed, and it would be better if it was never taught.
Example:
10 / 5 x 2
PEMDAS: Multiply first: 5 x 2 = 10
Then divide: 10 / 10 = 1
Wrong.
The correct order is left to right:
10 / 5 = 2, then 2 x 2 = 4.

But multiplication isn't meant to come first in PEMDAS; it's on the same 'level' as division, so you go left to right. That's always how it's been taught here. (Same goes for BODMAS in reverse.)
It might come first in the acronym but there's always the disclaimer that multiplication and division are equal and to go left to right.

Yes. The problem is it's taught incorrectly more often than not, and without proper understanding of the arithmetic operations it pertains to. The part about M&D having equal precedence, as well as A&S is frequently omitted, as well as what exponentiation actually means.
It's meant to be just a mnemonic, but it's so often presented as a golden rule.

we’re you taught wrong? The parentheticals are performed before anything else. @OP never clarified the original post, so nobody can answer the question anyway, gawdddd

Parentheses are not necessary. According to PEMDAS, you compute the exponent first, then the multiplication.
The answer is 48, by the way.

What is a number multiplied by the power of itself called? Like 3³, 4⁴ etc

well, the Online Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences calls those numbers:
A000312 a(n) = n^n; number of labeled mappings from n points to themselves (endofunctions). https://oeis.org/A000312

@1,162,257 (F) > we’re you taught wrong? > we're
No, but it seems you were, and not just at maths.
I have taught first year university and had to get students to unlearn ill-conceived notions initially taught by Mrs Brown in grade 3 and carried over through high school.

Don't need to. By default you do exponent first (as J said).
