When I've collected all* the coins of the Severan dynasty, I'd like to buy or make a little display like the one in this picture, laminated descriptions and all. It'd be like having my own museum display at home. 😌
*Or at least all of the ones I can realistically afford. One of Elagabalus' wives was only married to him for a very short time, so her coins are rare and thus prohibitively expensive.

No! You're going to turn into a Bond villain hunting the world for rarer and rarer coins to quench your obsessive thirst.
It'll start out with buying them. Then you'll turn to ways to make quick cash or find loan scams to purchase new Elagabalus coins. Then comes the robbery phase. Before you know it you'll be standing in front of a team of thieves and murderers, some of whom have swords for legs and glass eyes that shoot laser beams, plotting to knock over the British Museum. Please pull back now, KS. There is still time.

Wahey, another Roman coin arrived today. I'm not sure the picture gets it across, but this is my most lifelike on yet. It's absolutely incredible, it's like I'm looking at this ancient ruler's face.
This is Alexander Severus, cousin and successor of Elagabalus. He was actually shaping up to be a wise and benevolent Emperor, but he inherented some major issues from his predecessors. He also never quite got the army onside, resulting in them killing him and unwittingly starting the disastrous Crisis of the Third Century.

I didn't like Indy. I must've drank a 700ml bottle of vodka on my 19th birthday in under 20 minutes while watching the Futurama episode where Bender builds that statue. I passed out in the hall and ended up in hospital. When I awoke I was dazed, but one of the first things I did was ask for my phone and browsed minichan. One of the first posts I saw was Indy. I was overcome with joy that I was alive and I loved Indy ever since then. I put on my fedora and left the hospital and walked into some car place who called my family to pick me up.

I would be very surprised to see Mother 3 on there. I can't see Nintendo going through the effort to localize an old game like that, and I definitely don't see them licensing a fan translation. Mother 1 never came out here but that was a weird scenario where they had already completed a localized version back in the day but just chose not to release it.

I suspect this might not be the best time to ask, but I really wanted to get your take on Alexander Severus. I read a book about him recently, and I was pleasantly surprised. Far from being a docile mummy's boy, he actually did some charitable stuff and did push back against the senators and praetorians sometimes. Unfortunately he mishandled the military and that got him killed.
Mamaea was very important throughout his reign, though, that was still pretty undeniable.

It sounds like he really had to learn fast. By all reports he did. Just not fast enough. I'm sure in normal times he would have been a great ruler. Severus and Caracalla had been shit rulers. It was about time for a "good" Severun. It's a shame.

"Normal times" is an interesting choice of words, he definitely inherited some difficult situations from his Severan predecessors. Severus and Caracalla both overpaid the army, so he had to cut their numbers, which meant it took longer to mobilise for Parthia... The book also made the point that Severus and Caracalla bashing Rome's enemies so hard made it inevitable that they would regroup and be Alexander's problem down the line. IMO his only major misstep was not knowing how to make the soldiers like him, otherwise I think he was a generally good guy who got dropped into an tough reign.
> Yeah, we're probably witnissing the role of Queen Julia.
I remember you saying to me once that she probably wasn't very involved in his military decisions, and surviving inscriptions actually might back that up. Basically, all of the inscriptions that suck up to Alexander in a military context omit any mention of Mamaea, whereas in general they priased her effusively elsewhere. Maybe they thought it was inappropriate to praise a woman in a military context, but the omission does make me suspect you were right.
She and the other Severan Julias appeal to me a lot. They were obviously very clever and cunning women who went far in the male-dominated politics of the time. It's a shame that the written sources didn't write more about them.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see it officially localized. But even though one of the producers has voiced interest doesn't mean Nintendo will actually do it. As far as I can tell, he isn't really associated with Nintendo anymore anyway. There's much less demand for it now than there was back in 2006 when the game came out, and they didn't feel there was enough demand even back then to do it. The only thing I could see going for it now versus back then is the lack of production costs for a physical cartridge, since it would just be an online thing. That would cut down on their costs quite a bit, but it still isn't a trivial matter to localize a game. I don't see it happening unless they do some kind of modernized trilogy remake for Switch, in which case I could see them localizing that. But I don't really see that happening either, it seems the series had a bit of a resurgence when Undertale blew up, but even that has mostly died down now.
Maybe I'm just a pessimist since I've been let down since 2006 by this game's lack of localization. There have been so many similar stories over the years that gave the fanbase hope, just to be let down when absolutely nothing came of them.

What is time? Many say the fourth dimension. People think that time moves in one direction. But what if we're wrong. I had an epiphany, time isn't constrained by the universe, the universe is constrained by time. It is not a single string, it is like a ball of. Our perception of time makes it go forward, but who's to say it can't go backward, reverse or go side to side? I was basing the timeloops based on the constraints of the universe, but it flows throw our fingers like a waterfall and we can't catch it. Maybe all time is existing at once.

Fundamental physics equations are time symmetric. Imagine watching a video of two billiard balls colliding. Without additional context, you wouldn't know if you were shown the original video or a reversed playing of it.
It is a great mystery why time as we perceive it (constantly increasing entropy, everyday experience, etc) is obviously very asymmetric. Although perhaps the idea that entropy is constantly increasing is a red herring and a relatively empty statement in itself due to the way entropy is defined.

I get the feeling she wasn't directly involved, like commanding troops or anything, but certainly leading from the rear. Particularly as far as Elagabalus' death was involved. The sheer amount of Roman misogyny is stunning to read in the histories. They did not approve of women organizing combat.

I was trying to find a particularly hilarious post where he constructs an elaborate and bizarre history of Dave's university education. Sadly, it's gone. Gone forever. 😔
