I hate "Caucasian" because not all white people are from the Caucasus region. It makes no sense. It would be like calling all Middle Easterners (including Kurds, Iranians, Afghans, etc) "Arabian".

That doesn't make sense. African Americans "originated" from Africa, but we don't call them Africans.

No, because we were the original Americans. Native Americans weren't actually American at all - they were "North American", sure, but the country of America didn't exist yet, and us Americans created it. Therefore "whites in America" are Americans, "Native Americans" are Indigenous, and all others are "[Ethnicity] Americans".
