But not common for this virus. Ideally testing is needed first before the drug is rolled out for mass use, because the wrong drug could be ineffective or even actively harmful. This is very important when we're talking about a highly infectious virus.
I actually agree that it's wrong and harmful to dismiss it out of hand just because Trump endorsed it, but I still think it's also valid to point out that the US President has no business endorsing a then-unproven drug on a whim.

Also, last I heard (not long ago but it could be outdated info by now), it actually can be helpful if given in the early stages of the disease. Just not if it's used in the later stages.
If that holds up to further research scrutiny, then I do hope everyone can get over the Trump nonsense and just use it as needed.
